Kenny began his work with Day-Glo and Blacklight paints that work in the disco parties in 1980. His installation was known as Cosmic Closet in 1981. This was installed in his apartment that was shared with Keith Haring.
Kenny also had some important shows in the Fun Gallery in 1981 and Tony Shafrazi in 1984. His work was embraced by the museums after seeing the work of Kenny. He was selected for the Whitney Biennial in 1985 for his Whitney painting.
